Smart Plug Automation for Hassle-Free Reboots

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with using smart plugs to automate reboots for my Home Assistant setup and router. It’s been a game-changer for maintaining smooth operations without manual intervention!

I run Home Assistant via Docker on an Ubuntu server, and occasionally the machine becomes unresponsive, requiring a reboot. To tackle this, I’ve set up a Broadlink RM Pro alongside some 433MHz smart plugs. These allow me to reboot the server seamlessly. However, if the router or network goes down, connectivity to the Broadlink is lost, which limits its effectiveness in those scenarios.

I’ve considered using Zigbee smart plugs with a spare Conbee stick I have, but I’m unsure if running a second Zigbee network alongside the main one is advisable. Does anyone have experience with this setup or any budget-friendly hardware recommendations for a more robust solution?

It would be fantastic to hear if others have implemented similar systems or if there’s a more elegant approach to automating these reboots. I’m always looking for ways to improve my setup and ensure reliability!

Looking forward to your insights and suggestions. Thanks for sharing your expertise!
