Smart Plug Configuration and Energy Monitoring Experience

I recently decided to integrate smart plugs into my home to better manage energy consumption and automate some daily tasks. After doing some research, I decided to go with the Govee smart plugs, which have been working great so far. However, I ran into a few configuration challenges that I wanted to share and get some feedback on.

First, I connected my smart plugs to my Raspberry Pi-based Home Assistant setup. The initial setup was straightforward using the Zigbee protocol, but I noticed that the plugs sometimes lose connection after a few hours. I’ve tried resetting the plugs and checking the Zigbee network, but the issue persists. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, how did you resolve it?

Another thing I’m curious about is energy monitoring. I’ve set up statistics sensors to track the energy usage of my devices, but I’d love to take it a step further. Is there a way to categorize the energy usage based on the time of day or specific events? For example, tracking how much energy my coffee maker uses in the morning versus the rest of the day. I’ve heard about using custom scripts or integrations, but I’m not sure where to start.

On a positive note, I’ve been impressed with how easy it is to create automations with these plugs. I set up a routine where my hallway lights turn on when I plug in my phone in the evening, and it’s been a nice convenience. I’d love to hear about other creative ways people are using smart plugs in their homes.

If anyone has tips on improving the reliability of the Zigbee network or suggestions for advanced energy tracking, I’d be grateful for the insights. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other make the most out of our smart home setups!
