Hi everyone, I’m really excited to share my experience and seek some advice regarding using smart plugs with Christmas lights. This time of year is always so magical, but I’ve been facing some challenges that I hope you can help me with!
So, I’ve been trying out both the SmartThings Plug and the Wemo Socket to control my Christmas lights. Last year, the Wemo Socket worked perfectly for me, but this year, I’m struggling to get them to work consistently. The lights are powered by a 12V adapter, and I suspect that might be part of the issue, but I’m not entirely sure.
I’ve tried resetting the plugs, checking the connections, and even ensuring the lights are properly grounded. Despite all that, the plugs just don’t seem to like the lights at all. It’s frustrating because I really want to automate my holiday decorations without having to manually switch everything on and off.
I’ve heard that using smart plugs with low-voltage devices can sometimes cause compatibility issues, but I’m not sure if that’s the case here. Maybe there’s a workaround or a different type of plug that’s better suited for this kind of setup. I’d love to hear if anyone else has had similar experiences or has found a solution that works well.
On a positive note, I’ve been really impressed with how smart plugs can transform the way we decorate our homes. It’s just a shame when they don’t work as expected. I’m hoping the community can shed some light (no pun intended) on this issue so I can get my lights shining bright this holiday season!
Thanks in advance for your help and insights! Let’s spread some holiday cheer together! ![]()
