Smart PV Surplus Charging with go-e Charger

Hi everyone, I’m excited to share my journey into smarter home energy management! I’ve recently set up a system to automate my go-e Chargers to use PV surplus for charging. It’s been a bit of a learning curve, but I’m eager to get it working smoothly.

Currently, I have two go-e Chargers integrated into my Home Assistant setup. I’ve got a sensor that tracks the available PV surplus, which is crucial for determining when to charge. The goal is to have the chargers activate only when there’s excess solar energy, ensuring I’m making the most of my renewable resources.

I’ve explored various automations and scripts within Home Assistant, but I’m still tweaking the logic to ensure it’s both efficient and reliable. For instance, I want the system to prioritize charging during daylight hours when solar production is highest and to avoid drawing from the grid unnecessarily.

One challenge I’ve encountered is ensuring the system doesn’t overreact to fluctuations in solar production. I’m experimenting with different thresholds and delays to find the right balance. It’s also important that the system remains user-friendly, so I’m considering how to present the status and controls in a clear and accessible way within the Home Assistant interface.

I’m curious to hear if others have tackled similar projects or have advice on optimizing such a setup. Whether it’s about fine-tuning the automation logic, selecting the right sensors, or integrating with other smart home devices, I’m all ears!

Looking forward to your insights and experiences. Let’s make our homes smarter and greener together! :seedling::zap:
