Smart Switch Installation and Neutral Wire Solution

I recently decided to upgrade my gas fireplace with a smart switch to make my life a bit easier. The idea of saying, ‘Alexa, turn on the fireplace’ and having it work seamlessly was pretty exciting! I purchased a Leviton smart switch, but quickly ran into an issue—my outlet box didn’t have a neutral wire. This was a bit frustrating, but I wasn’t ready to give up just yet.

Luckily, I noticed there was an outlet about three feet below the fireplace switch. I wondered if I could use the neutral wire from that outlet to power my smart switch. After doing a bit of research, it seemed like a viable solution. I decided to try pulling the neutral wire from the lower outlet to connect it to the smart switch. It worked like a charm! Now, I can control my fireplace with ease using Alexa.

This experience taught me the importance of checking the wiring setup beforehand and being resourceful when it comes to smart home installations. If you’re facing a similar issue, don’t hesitate to look for alternative solutions—sometimes, the answer is just a few feet away!

If anyone else has tips or tricks for smart switch installations, I’d love to hear them. Let’s keep the smart home community growing and sharing knowledge!
