Hi everyone, I’m currently exploring options for adding smart features to my EV charger setup. I’ve got a 30A circuit with 10AWG wires connected to an older EVSE, which works fine but lacks any smart features like on/off control or power monitoring. Upgrading the circuit and wires would be too costly and disruptive, so I’m looking to intercept the EVSE connection with a smart switch instead.
I’ve narrowed it down to two options: the GE / Jasco 40A Indoor/Outdoor Switch 14285 and the AEOTEC Heavy Duty Smart Switch. From my research, the Jasco switch seems to have a superior build quality with an accessible switch without needing a screwdriver, which is a big plus for me. However, the AEOTEC model is reported to have better Z-Wave coverage, which is important for reliability in my setup.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with either of these switches in a similar setup. How reliable has the energy monitoring been for either unit? Would you recommend one over the other, and are there any gotchas I should be aware of for intercepting my current wiring?
Thanks in advance for any insights or recommendations! ![]()
