After spending a lot of time researching and experimenting, I thought I’d share my experience with setting up a smart thermostat for a multi-level home. I’ve been using an Ecobee, but it just wasn’t cutting it for our two-story house. The temperature difference between the floors was always a problem, and getting the remote sensors was a nightmare.
Here’s what I did: I went with a Z-Wave setup, which worked perfectly with my existing devices. I installed sensors in key areas—living room, office, and all the bedrooms upstairs. Now, during the day, the system averages the thermostat and office sensor readings. At night, it switches to the upstairs sensors. It’s been a game-changer!
One thing I learned is to start simple and gradually add more automation. If you’re new to this, don’t dive into complex scripts right away. Also, make sure your sensors are placed correctly to avoid false readings.
I’d love to hear other people’s setups and tips, especially if you’ve tackled similar challenges. Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other out! ![]()
