Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent project using Homey to automate my living room curtains. It’s been a fun challenge and I’d love to hear your thoughts or tips!
I’ve been using Homey for a while now, and I decided to take it to the next level by integrating it with my roller blinds. My goal was to create a system that adjusts the blinds based on light levels and time of day. I chose a TUYA-based motor for its reliability, even though it was a bit tricky to set up at first. I followed some great advice from the community on embedding TUYA devices without the hassle of IP addresses, which saved me a lot of headaches.
Here’s what I did: I installed a Xiaomi Mijia light sensor to monitor the brightness in the room. Using Homey’s flow system, I created rules that adjust the blinds to three different positions—20%, 60%, and 100%—based on the light sensor readings and the time of day. For example, during the morning when the sun is bright, the blinds go to 60% to keep things cool, and at night, they lower to 20% to maintain privacy while still letting in some light.
One thing I’m still working on is preventing the blinds from moving too often when the light levels fluctuate slightly. I’ve added a counter to track how many times they move, and I’m experimenting with delays between adjustments. If anyone has tips on how to make this smoother, I’d love to hear them!
I also want to give a shoutout to the Homey community for all the helpful resources and tutorials. It’s amazing how much you can achieve with a little creativity and the right tools. I’m really happy with how this project turned out and can’t wait to expand it further in the future.
What’s your favorite Homey project? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips you have for improving my setup! ![]()
