SmartThings Classic Integration Challenges and Solutions

I’ve been using SmartThings Classic for several years now, and while it’s been mostly trouble-free, I’ve recently encountered some issues that I thought I’d share with the community. Hopefully, this can help others avoid some headaches or find solutions more efficiently!

Initial Setup and Device Integration

I’ve been impressed with how SmartThings Classic handles most of my devices. The integration with WebCore and other apps has been seamless, and my wife even finds it user-friendly—though she’s not exactly a tech enthusiast! However, I recently ran into a snag when trying to connect my Samsung Powerbot R7040 vacuum cleaner.

The Problem with Device Connectivity

After purchasing the R7040, I followed the instructions meticulously, but I couldn’t get it to connect to SmartThings Classic. Frustrated, I downloaded the newer version of the SmartThings app, which allowed me to see the device under devices. However, this created a new issue—most of my 40 connected devices started showing as disconnected in the newer app. I read that server issues might be to blame, but I’m still puzzled why I can’t connect it to the classic platform.

Duplicate Alerts and App Overload

To make matters worse, I now have to use two apps to monitor my system, and I’m receiving duplicate alerts for everything. It’s incredibly frustrating, especially since I rely on these notifications for security and convenience. I’m hesitant to switch entirely to the newer app because I’m worried about losing functionality with WebCore and other apps.

Seeking Solutions

I’ve reached out to the community for advice, but I’m still waiting on a definitive solution. In the meantime, I’m exploring workarounds, such as adjusting my device associations and testing different connection protocols. If anyone has successfully integrated a Samsung Powerbot R7040 with SmartThings Classic, or has tips on avoiding duplicate alerts, I’d be thrilled to hear from you!

Final Thoughts

Despite these challenges, I remain optimistic about SmartThings Classic. Its reliability and integration capabilities are unmatched, and I’m hopeful that these issues are temporary. Until then, I’ll keep tweaking and experimenting—I guess that’s part of the fun of home automation!
