SmartThings Garage Door Notification Setup: Seeking Timeout Solution

Hey everyone, I’ve been tinkering with my garage door setup using the WeMo Maker and SmartThings, and I wanted to share my progress and a question I’m stuck on. Setup Details: I’ve successfully integrated the WeMo Maker to control my garage door, allowing me to operate it via Alexa, an app, or IFTTT triggers. I also rigged up a sensor using spare parts, which cleverly flips the status between “closed” and “open” depending on the door’s position. While SmartThings doesn’t natively support the WeMo Maker, I found a workaround by scripting it as a local “Thing” with sensor and trigger capabilities. Current Challenge: My main goal is to set up a notification if the garage door remains open for more than X minutes. I’ve managed to trigger notifications immediately when the door opens, but I’m struggling to implement a delayed alert after a specific timeout period. Desired Outcome: Ideally, I’d like Alexa to notify me if the door stays open beyond a set time, but I’m open to other notification methods if Alexa integration isn’t feasible. Tools at My Disposal: I’m using a SmartThings Hub, Amazon Echo (Alexa), IFTTT, and various other smart devices. Seeking Advice: Has anyone tackled a similar project? Any suggestions on apps, scripts, or workarounds that could help me achieve this timeout functionality? I’d greatly appreciate any insights or recommendations!
