Hello everyone! I’m really excited to dive into the world of smart home automation, and I’m hoping you can help me figure out how to make everything work seamlessly together. I recently purchased a SmartThings Aeotec hub, and I’m looking to integrate a variety of smart devices from different manufacturers.
One thing I’m curious about is whether I can mix and match devices that use different communication protocols. For example, can I use a Matter protocol motion sensor alongside a Zigbee smart bulb without needing additional hubs or bridges? The marketing materials I’ve seen suggest that I might need separate hubs for each protocol, but I feel like that defeats the purpose of having a single, unified system.
I’ve also been experimenting with setting up some basic automations, like turning on lights when the motion sensor detects movement. So far, things are working, but I’m wondering if there are any best practices or tips for ensuring smooth operation across different protocols.
If anyone has successfully integrated devices from multiple protocols into a single SmartThings system, I’d love to hear about your setup and any challenges you encountered along the way. Your insights would be incredibly valuable as I continue to build out my smart home ecosystem.
Thanks in advance for your help, and I look forward to learning from your experiences!
