SmartThings Hub Offline but Automations Still Working

Hello everyone, I’ve been experiencing an odd issue with my SmartThings hub. It goes offline almost every night, and it’s been getting worse over the past six months. Right now, as I write this, the hub is offline. EVERY device shows as offline on my phone app and won’t work. The hub LED is solid blue, though it was blinking blue earlier. Google Home also can’t control the devices, with GH saying, ‘The device isn’t available right now’ for all of them.

Here’s the kicker: my SmartThings automations (routines) still work! For example, my night light automations based on time and zwave motion sensors are triggering just fine. I even noticed a third automation working as well. I can see the zwave sensor LED flash and then a zwave light turn on, even though both devices are marked as unavailable.

This is puzzling. I thought my hub was dying, but now I’m not so sure. The only noticeable difference is the response time—about 1-5 seconds between triggers and actions, compared to my usual 1-3 seconds. I’m really confused. Has anyone else experienced this?

I’m using the ‘Automation’ tab in the phone app where you can create routines. I just checked again, and the hub LED is still blue, but the routines are still working two hours after the hub went offline. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Jim
