Hey everyone! I’ve been using the SmartThings Hub for years now with various devices like plugs, lights, and thermostats, and I must say, it’s been pretty stable overall—though there have been the occasional hiccups. Recently, I decided to dive into Home Assistant (HA) and it’s been an exciting journey! I’ve managed to integrate most of my devices into HA, excluding the Zigbee/ZWave ones, which are still handled by the SmartThings Hub.
I’ve set up some virtual devices on the SmartThings side to handle a Zooz remote I picked up, using the Edge drivers. Now, my question is: should I stick with the SmartThings Hub managing my Zigbee/ZWave devices, or would it be better to bring that functionality directly into HA with some USB antennas or devices? I’ve heard there might be issues with range, especially since my HA VM is running in the basement while the SmartThings Hub is on the main floor.
On the HA side, I’ve been blown away by how much more I can do with HACS. It’s expanded my home automation capabilities significantly. I’m curious if anyone has experience with integrating Zigbee/ZWave devices directly into HA and if they’ve noticed any improvements in stability or range compared to using the SmartThings Hub. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! ![]()
