SmartThings Hub Upgrade Experience and Tips

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience upgrading my SmartThings hub to the SmartThings Wifi Mesh. It’s been a bit of a journey, but I’ve learned a lot along the way! :star2:

First off, I was curious about whether I needed to completely remove my old hub to use the Wifi Mesh. After doing some research and reaching out to the community, I found that it’s possible to use both hubs together, with the old one acting as a repeater. That was a relief because it meant I didn’t have to start from scratch!

One thing I was worried about was transferring my devices. I was happy to discover that most of my devices were compatible and could be easily reconnected. However, there were a few that needed a bit of tweaking. I ended up using the SmartThings app to manually re-pair some sensors, which worked out smoothly in the end.

I also wanted to mention the importance of a stable network setup. Before upgrading, I made sure my Wi-Fi was as strong as possible by moving the router to a central location and disabling any unnecessary devices. This has made a huge difference in the reliability of my smart home setup.

If you’re considering this upgrade, I’d recommend taking the time to plan out your network layout and test each device after the upgrade. It might seem tedious, but it’s worth it to ensure everything runs smoothly!

I’d love to hear about your experiences with SmartThings or any other smart home upgrades you’ve done. What tips or tricks have helped you along the way? Let’s keep the conversation going! :handshake:

Cheers,
