I recently installed my SmartThings hub and have been exploring its capabilities. While the setup process was smooth, I encountered a few issues with the multi-sensors that I’d like to share and seek advice on.
First, I noticed that the multi-sensors occasionally show the door as open/closed frequently, which is a bit confusing. I checked the logs, but couldn’t find any entries that matched this behavior. Additionally, I experienced timeouts with the Android app, though restarting it usually resolved the issue.
Another challenge was the installation of the multi-sensors. The double-sided tape wasn’t as effective as I hoped, especially if I need to reposition them. The sensors also seemed sensitive to crown molding and weather stripping, making alignment tricky. I’m still unsure if I have enough contact between the sensor and the door to ensure accurate readings.
Interestingly, one of the multi-sensors showed an 88% battery level just 30 minutes after installation, while another sensor exposed to similar activity remained at 100%. I’m curious if this is normal or if there’s something I should be concerned about.
Despite these challenges, I’m impressed with SmartThings’ performance. The hub’s latency is excellent—my lamp turns on in under a second! The support team was also fantastic, helping me fix an issue with creating a location through live chat within an hour.
I’d love to see more from the SmartThings team, such as weekly blog updates on partnerships, a bug tracker, and a dedicated support forum for Android users. I also think a community wiki for verified devices would be invaluable.
Overall, I’m happy with my SmartThings setup and excited to see how it evolves. If anyone has tips or solutions for the issues I mentioned, I’d be grateful to hear them!
