SmartThings Sensor Battery Lifespan: Tips and Tricks

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with SmartThings Multipurpose sensors since I have quite a few of them around the house. Let me start by saying, I love how versatile these sensors are! They’ve really helped me automate my home in ways I never thought possible. But, there’s one thing that’s been on my mind a lot—battery life. :thinking:I’ve noticed that the batteries that come with these sensors only last a few weeks, which is a bit of a letdown. Once I replace them, though, they can go up to 12 months without needing another change. That’s a huge improvement! But here’s the thing—I’ve been replacing batteries every 1-2 weeks, and it’s getting a bit frustrating. I mean, who wants to be climbing up ladders or squeezing into tight spaces every few weeks to change batteries? Not me!So, I have two questions for the community:1. How do I check the battery status outside of the SmartThings app? I’ve heard about battery testers, but I can’t seem to find one that works for these coin batteries. Plus, the battery status in the app doesn’t seem very reliable to me.2. Does anyone else experience the same short battery life with new ST sensors? It seems like once the battery dies, it’s a quick replacement, and then no issues for months. I have about 20 of these sensors, and it’s been a consistent issue.I’ve tried a few things to extend battery life, like adjusting the sensitivity settings and making sure the sensors aren’t in direct sunlight. But I’m curious if there are other tricks or tools out there that I might be missing. Maybe some kind of monitoring system or a different type of battery? If anyone has tips or solutions, I’d love to hear them! Let’s work together to make these sensors even smarter and more reliable.
