After months of research and planning, I finally made the leap into the world of smart home automation, and it’s been nothing short of amazing! 
I wanted to share my journey and some tips for anyone considering making the switch.
Starting with the basics, I invested in a Yale KeyFree smart lock. It’s been a game-changer for how I manage access to my home. The activity logs are incredibly detailed, allowing me to see exactly when and who used which code. This level of transparency gives me peace of mind, especially when sharing access with family or service providers.
One of the biggest hurdles I faced was integrating multiple devices from different brands. I had a mix of Zigbee and Wi-Fi devices, and getting everything to play nicely together was a challenge. However, using the Hubitat ecosystem has been a lifesaver. The ability to automate routines across devices has streamlined my daily life in ways I never imagined.
For example, I set up my Shelly switches to work seamlessly with my HVAC system. Now, when I press the wall switch, it not only turns on the lights but also adjusts the thermostat to my preferred temperature. It’s these small touches that make the smart home experience truly special.
