Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent project where I developed a solar-powered router to redirect excess energy from my solar panels to a water heater. This setup not only helps reduce my reliance on the grid but also optimizes energy usage in a sustainable way.
I used a combination of devices, including an Ecodevice to monitor real-time power consumption and production, a Xiaomi Aqara smart switch for controlling the energy flow, and a Shelly Plus module to manage the power variations. The integration with Homey has been seamless, allowing me to automate the energy redirection process based on the surplus generated by my solar panels.
One of the challenges I faced was ensuring the system remained stable and responsive. By experimenting with different flow settings and monitoring the power data closely, I managed to achieve a system that rarely injects energy back into the grid. The visual representation of power consumption and production in real-time has been incredibly helpful in fine-tuning the setup.
I’d love to hear from others who have implemented similar energy optimization projects or have suggestions for further improvements. It’s always great to learn from the community and share experiences to make our smart homes even smarter and more sustainable!
