Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with setting up my Blink Mini Pan-Tilt Cameras and how I managed to resolve some automation issues in Home Assistant. It’s been quite a journey, but I’m happy to share what I’ve learned!
Blink Camera Calibration Struggles
I recently purchased two Blink Mini Pan-Tilt Cameras and set them up in my home. The installation went smoothly, but I encountered a frustrating issue with calibration. Both cameras showed an error message stating they needed recalibration. Every time I tried to recalibrate, the process failed after about 10 seconds with the message, ‘RECALIBRATION FAILED. PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER.’
I tried everything—removing the cameras from the wall, placing them on a table with no obstructions, even waiting hours between attempts. Nothing worked. It was really disheartening because the default position was pointing at the floor, making them almost useless for surveillance.
After some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that a firmware update was available for the Blink app. Updating the firmware resolved the calibration issue, and now both cameras are working perfectly! It was a relief to finally get them up and running.
Automation Issues in Home Assistant
Speaking of cameras, I also faced some challenges with automations in Home Assistant. My ‘front door’ camera stopped streaming via Google Home Automations, which was a bit puzzling. I noticed that when I triggered the automation manually using voice commands, it worked fine, but the automation itself wasn’t activating the stream.
After some troubleshooting, I realized that the issue was related to how the automation was configured. I had to adjust the settings in the Google Nest Hub and ensure that the camera was correctly integrated into Home Assistant. Once I made those changes, the automation started working again, and I could monitor my front door seamlessly.
Lessons Learned
This experience taught me the importance of keeping firmware and software updated. It also highlighted how crucial it is to thoroughly check configurations, especially when dealing with automations. I’m now more confident in troubleshooting similar issues in the future.
I hope this post helps someone who’s experiencing similar problems. If you have any questions or tips, feel free to share them below! Happy automating! ![]()
