Solving the Hue Motion Sensor Mystery

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with my Hue motion sensor. For years, it had been reliably triggering our front door light, but after a recent hub upgrade, it suddenly stopped working. I was puzzled and a bit concerned, but I decided to tackle the problem step by step.

First, I checked the basics. The light itself was still functional, so the issue wasn’t with the bulb. I noticed that the motion sensor’s red light still came on when it detected motion, indicating it had power. However, it wasn’t sending any signals to the hub. I started by resetting the sensor, but that didn’t solve the problem. Next, I considered the battery. Although it wasn’t showing any low battery warnings, I decided to replace it just in case. To my relief, the sensor started working again after the battery was changed!

This experience taught me the importance of checking the basics, even when things seem more complex. If you’re facing a similar issue, here are a few tips:

  • Check the Battery: Even if the sensor seems to have power, a low battery can cause intermittent issues.
  • Reset the Device: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve connectivity problems.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure your hub and devices are running the latest firmware.

I’m happy to have my motion sensor back in action, and I hope this helps someone else troubleshoot their own sensor issues. Happy smart home tinkering! :rocket:
