Solving the Motion Sensor Light Timer Issue

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience with setting up a motion sensor light timer. I’ve been dealing with a light in my house that I constantly leave on, and I decided it was time to take control. I replaced the switch with a smart version, and now I’m in the second phase of automation. I’d like the light to turn off 15 minutes after I turn it on, but if the motion sensor detects movement, it should reset the timer.

I’ve heard great things about Vera scripting, so I thought I’d give it a try. I started by researching the best motion sensors, and the Aeon Labs one came up a lot. I decided to go with that, and I’m really glad I did. The setup was pretty straightforward, and the motion sensor worked right out of the box.

I then dove into Vera scripting. I wasn’t very familiar with it before, but I found some helpful tutorials online. I learned how to create a rule that would trigger the light to turn off after 15 minutes of inactivity. The real challenge was getting the motion sensor to reset the timer. It took some trial and error, but I finally got it to work! Now, whenever someone enters the room, the light turns on and the timer resets.

I’m so happy with how this turned out. It’s not only saving me from constantly leaving the light on, but it’s also adding a layer of convenience. I can now leave the room without worrying about the light staying on, and the motion sensor ensures that the light is always there when I need it.

If anyone else is looking to set up something similar, I’d highly recommend starting with a good motion sensor and diving into Vera scripting. It’s a bit of a learning curve, but the payoff is worth it. Happy automating everyone!
