Hey everyone! I wanted to share my journey in figuring out how to make my Wyze Bulbs turn off automatically after a few minutes. I’ve been using Wyze for a while now, and while their bulbs are fantastic, I couldn’t quite get the auto-off feature to work the way I wanted. Let me walk you through how I tackled this and hopefully, it might help someone else out there!
So, here’s the deal: I set up a motion sensor that triggers the bulb to turn on when it detects movement. But I wanted the bulb to turn off automatically after, say, 5 minutes of no motion. I tried a few things, and honestly, it was a bit frustrating at first. I thought maybe I had to dive deep into some complicated automation scripts, but then I remembered IFTTT!
IFTTT turned out to be the hero here. If you’re not familiar, IFTTT lets you create applets that automate tasks between different services. For this, I used the Wyze applet to trigger the bulb off after a delay. The key was figuring out how to set the delay correctly. IFTTT has a built-in delay feature, so I set it to wait 5 minutes after the motion sensor triggers the bulb on. Then, it automatically turns the bulb off. Simple, right?
I also stumbled upon some great tips in the forums about using HA (Home Assistant) for more advanced automation. Some folks mentioned using HA’s built-in timers and automations, which might be even more flexible than IFTTT. But since I’m still getting comfortable with HA, IFTTT worked perfectly for me.
What’s been awesome is seeing how others have tackled similar issues. Some people use smart plugs with timers, while others have created elaborate routines with multiple devices. It’s really inspiring to see the creativity in this community!
If anyone else is struggling with Wyze bulb automation or has tips to share, I’d love to hear them. Let’s keep the ideas flowing! ![]()
