Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success with getting the Somfy URTSI II Binding working over RS-485. This was a bit of a puzzle at first, but I managed to crack it!
Initially, I was a bit confused because the documentation only mentioned RS-232 support. But I had a feeling RS-485 could work since it’s more scalable for multiple devices. I decided to give it a try without any major hardware changes.
To my delight, it worked perfectly! The RS-485 bus allowed me to connect up to 16 URTSI II devices, which is exactly what I needed for my setup. I did notice that the device address is hardcoded to 1, which is fine for RS-232 but could be more flexible for RS-485. However, this didn’t affect my current setup, so I’m not too concerned about it.
I think this information would be helpful for others who might be considering RS-485 for their Somfy devices. Maybe I should submit a pull request to update the documentation. What do you guys think?
This experience just goes to show how much potential these devices have when you dig a little deeper. I’m really happy with how everything is working now, and I can’t wait to explore more possibilities with my smart home setup!
