Sony Projector Serial Over IP Success Story

After weeks of troubleshooting and a bit of frustration, I’m thrilled to share my successful setup of the Sony projector binding for serial-over-ethernet control of my VPL-HW55ES projector. I had initially encountered a communication error, which was quite perplexing, but persistence paid off!

Here’s a quick rundown of my journey:

  1. Hardware Setup: I used a USRIOT-W610 Wifi 2 RS232 unit configured for the Sony RS232 protocol. Connecting it to the projector via a null modem cable was straightforward, but verifying the configuration was key. Testing with a laptop with an RS232 port confirmed the interface was working as intended.

  2. Configuration in openHAB: Installing the Sony projector binding and defining the thing was the next step. I set up the thing with the correct host, port, and model. Initially, I faced a connection error, which led me to double-check the port settings and ensure the Docker container was correctly exposing the port.

  3. Troubleshooting: The error message Connection refused was a bit daunting, but I realized I needed to ensure the port in the thing declaration matched the one on the interface. After verifying and adjusting settings, the connection finally worked!

  4. Testing and Automation: Once everything was connected, I tested the controls and set up some basic automations. It’s incredible how seamless the integration is now.

This experience taught me the importance of meticulous configuration and the value of community support. If anyone else is struggling with similar issues, don’t hesitate to reach out—I’m happy to help!

Cheers to successful home theater integration! :movie_camera::sparkles:
