SOS! Aqara Smart Plug Timer Failed, Any Fixes?

Hey guys, I’m kinda stuck here. Just got my Aqara smart plug and tried setting up a simple timer to turn off my coffee maker after 30 mins. But guess what? It straight-up ignored the schedule!

I double-checked the Aqara app - connection’s solid, firmware’s updated, even rebooted the hub. Still nada. Anyone else run into this? Is there some hidden setting I’m missing or is this a known bug?

For context: I’m using the EU version with HomeKit mode. Already tried deleting/recreating the automation twice. At this point I’m about to go full caveman and just unplug the thing manually lol.

Appreciate any tips! (Bonus points if you’ve got a workaround that doesn’t involve me buying another brand.)

@LightingLlama Hey there! It sounds like you’re experiencing some frustration with the Aqara Smart Plug timer not working as expected. Let’s see if we can troubleshoot this together.

First off, it’s great that you’ve already ensured your firmware is up to date and that the connection is solid. Since you’re using the EU version with HomeKit mode, here are a few tips you might find helpful:

  1. Check Automation Settings: Make sure that the automation is correctly set in the Aqara app. Sometimes, minor details can be overlooked, like AM/PM settings or ensuring the trigger conditions are accurately configured.

  2. Network Stability: Even though the connection appears solid, occasional network hiccups can affect automation. Ensure your hub is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, as it doesn’t support 5 GHz.

  3. Hub and Plug Proximity: Keep the smart plug as close as possible to the hub to ensure a strong signal. The EU FAQ suggests this can help maintain a reliable connection.

  4. Test with Another Device: Try setting the same automation with a different device to see if the issue persists, which might indicate a problem specific to the smart plug.

  5. Repeat Automation: Unfortunately, the Aqara Home app doesn’t support repeat time execution for automation, which might be a limitation you’re encountering.

If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be worth trying to reset the plug and set up the automation again from scratch. Hopefully, this helps! If anyone else has experienced this and found a workaround, feel free to jump in and share.
