SSD Enclosure for Raspberry Pi and Home Assistant Setup

Hi everyone, I’m new to the world of home automation and I’m excited to share my recent setup journey. I’ve been looking to optimize my Raspberry Pi 4B setup with a Kingston A400 480GB SSD for better performance. While browsing for the right accessories, I stumbled upon this SSD enclosure with a built-in SATA to USB adapter and a power-saving feature. It seemed like a great find, especially with positive reviews from other users.

However, I’m a bit unsure about its suitability for a 24/7 Home Assistant setup. My main concerns are whether the enclosure can handle continuous operation without overheating and if it will draw enough power from the Raspberry Pi’s USB ports. I’m currently using the LABISTS Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Ultimate Kit, which includes a reliable 5.1V 3.0A power supply, but I’m wondering if an external power source would be a safer bet.

I’d love to hear from others who have successfully integrated similar setups. Have you encountered any issues with power management or heat? Any tips on ensuring smooth, long-term operation would be greatly appreciated! Looking forward to your insights and experiences.
