Streamlining My Smart Home Experience: Hiding Z-Wave Entities

I’ve been diving into the world of Home Assistant and it’s been an incredible journey. One thing I’ve noticed, though, is how the interface can get cluttered with all the Z-Wave entities. I mean, don’t get me wrong, they’re essential for diagnostics, but seeing zwave.* status updates everywhere can be a bit overwhelming when I just want to focus on the actual devices I interact with daily.

Initially, I was a bit lost on how to tackle this. I’ve read through a lot of forums and documentation, but a lot of the advice seems outdated or doesn’t quite fit my setup. I’m running version 0.103.4 and the GUI has really come a long way, but this issue still bugs me a little. I don’t want to remove these entities entirely—they do hold valuable diagnostic info—but I’d love a way to hide them neatly without manually excluding each one.

After some experimentation, I found that grouping these entities in the Overview UI was a great start. It keeps everything organized without cluttering my main view. I also noticed that most of these Z-Wave entities are in a ‘Ready’ state once everything is set up, so maybe they don’t need to be front and center all the time. It would be awesome if there was a built-in feature to conditionally show these entities only when they’re not in the ‘Ready’ state or to have them accessible through a dedicated Z-Wave control panel.

For now, I’ve been able to manage this by creating custom groups and using the customize feature to hide the entities I don’t need to see. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s keeping my interface clean and user-friendly. I’d love to hear if others have found more streamlined solutions or if there’s a feature request in the works to make this even easier!

Overall, Home Assistant continues to impress me with its flexibility and the community support is amazing. It’s these little tweaks that really make the experience polished and enjoyable for both new users and those who’ve been around the block a few times. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves in future updates!
