Streamlining Smart Lighting Automation with Philips Hue Dimmer Switches

I’ve been diving into the world of smart home automation lately, and I’m thrilled to share my experiences and insights with the community. As someone who’s passionate about creating a seamless and intuitive smart home setup, I’ve been experimenting with automations to simplify my daily life. One of my latest projects involves integrating the new Philips Hue Dimmer Switches into my bedtime routine, and it’s been nothing short of amazing!

I recently acquired a couple of the latest Philips Hue Dimmer Switches, and I must say, they’ve exceeded my expectations. Unlike the previous model, this one features a generic power button and a new Hue scene controller button. The built-in driver does a great job handling the generic power button, cycling between button 1 and button 4 pushes, while the middle buttons support both presses and holds. However, I’m still waiting for a driver update to fully utilize the Hue scene controller button. I’m really excited about the potential to toggle my night and morning scenes directly from bed without needing to pull out my phone or tablet.

In terms of automation, I’ve been working on creating a more streamlined setup. I have groups of switches and lights configured in my groups.yaml file, and I’ve set up several automations using switch.turn_on and light.turn_on services. My goal is to create a master automation that can turn both lights and switches on, which I can then call from other automations. For example, I envision triggering this automation at sunset with a 45-minute offset, but only before 10 PM. While I haven’t fully perfected this yet, I’m optimistic about the possibilities.

One thing I’d love to see from Govee is more scene options for their Flow Plus and Aura products. I’ve had some issues with these devices in the past, but I truly believe they have the potential to be game-changers in the smart lighting space. If anyone has tips or workarounds for enhancing their performance, I’d be more than happy to hear them!

On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring the integration of my Nuki 2.0 smart lock with my home security system. I’ve configured it to lock and unlock based on my arming and disarming routines, which has added a layer of convenience and security to my daily life. I’m curious if others have experience with URL commands to control their Nuki locks directly, as I’d love to explore more advanced automation scenarios.

Overall, my journey into smart home automation has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m eager to continue learning and sharing tips with the community. If anyone has advice, success stories, or innovative ideas, please do share! Let’s keep the conversation going and help each other create smarter, more connected homes.
