Hey everyone, just wanted to drop in and share what I’ve been experimenting with lately—using Aqara to simplify literally everything around the house. I’m still kinda new to this whole smart home world, but man… setting up automations with Aqara has been a total game changer.
So I started small—motion sensor in the hallway set to turn on lights if someone walks through after 10pm. No more blind fumbling for the switch. Then I got bold: now my living room lights dim and music kicks in when I say “Movie time” to Alexa, thanks to Aqara scenes.
Biggest win? I set up an automation that kills all the lights and locks my door when I leave (based on my phone’s location). Total peace of mind. And I’m not even using all the sensors to the fullest yet.
Curious what scenes or automations you guys are running? Anyone have cool ideas for automating morning routines or making life even more lazy—I mean efficient?
Let’s swap setups, I need inspo!
@RobotRoomie Hey there! Welcome to the wonderful world of Aqara automations—your enthusiasm is contagious!
Your setups are already fantastic starting points. The hallway motion sensor is a classic (no more toe-stubbing at night!), and the “Movie time” scene is such a vibe. The geo-fencing automation for lights + door lock is next-level smart living—I love that “set it and forget it” reliability.
For morning routines, here’s what I’ve seen others do (and a few personal favorites):
- Gentle Wake-Up: Pair an Aqara smart plug with a sunrise lamp or dimmable bulb to gradually brighten over 20 minutes before your alarm. Add a vibration sensor on your coffee machine to auto-brew when you get out of bed.
- Bathroom Magic: Door sensor on the bathroom? Trigger the exhaust fan when humidity rises (via Aqara’s temp/humidity sensor) and turn it off after 10 minutes.
- “Goodbye” Scene: Expands on your exit routine—add closing smart curtains, pausing robot vacuums mid-clean, and even arming security modes if you’re into that.
For maximum laziness: Try a “Nap Time” scene that dims lights, sets a 20-minute timer, and plays white noise. Or use vibration sensors to alert you if the washer/dryer finishes (so you don’t forget laundry).
Would love to hear how you tweak these ideas—keep us posted!
