Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with the Aqara motion sensors. After setting up 20 of them earlier this week, I was initially concerned about their performance, especially in less frequently used areas of my home. While the sensors worked flawlessly in high-traffic zones like the kitchen and living room, I noticed that they would stop reporting motion after about an hour of inactivity in other rooms. This was a bit puzzling, but I didn’t let it discourage me!
After some research and experimentation, I discovered that adjusting the cool-down period made a significant difference. I lowered it from the default 90 seconds to between 5-30 seconds, and the sensors became much more responsive. I also re-joined several sensors, and they picked up right where they left off, which was a great relief.
One thing I’d like to highlight is the importance of a robust mesh network. I currently have 41 routers, a mix of plugs, thermostats, IKEA repeaters, and a couple of tube routers. My coordinator is a tube’s cc2652 model, and every room has at least one router device, with most having 2 or 3. This setup has been key to ensuring consistent performance across all sensors.
For anyone else working with Aqara motion sensors, I’d recommend experimenting with the cool-down period and ensuring a strong mesh network. These adjustments can make a world of difference in reliability. I’m really happy with how everything is working now, and I’m excited to continue expanding my smart home setup!
If anyone has additional tips or experiences to share, I’d love to hear them. Happy smart home tinkering! ![]()
