Successful Integration of KNX Devices with Smart Home System

I recently faced an interesting challenge while integrating my KNX devices into my smart home system. Initially, I noticed that when configuring KNX devices through the textual file-based method, I could assign two items to a single KNX channel. For example, a switch and a dimmer could both be linked to the same channel. However, when I switched to using the new User Interface (UI), I was disappointed to find that this functionality wasn’t available—it seemed I could only link one item per channel. This was a bit frustrating, as it limited the flexibility I had previously enjoyed with the file-based setup.

After some research and experimentation, I discovered a workaround that allowed me to achieve the same level of flexibility within the UI. By creating two separate channels with the same KNX address—one configured as a switch and the other as a dimmer—I was able to replicate the behavior I had with the file-based method. This solution not only maintained the functionality I needed but also kept the setup clean and organized within the UI.

I wanted to share this experience because it might be helpful for others who are transitioning from file-based configurations to the newer UI. While the UI offers many advantages, it’s important to explore its capabilities fully and be open to creative solutions when encountering limitations. If you’re facing similar challenges, I encourage you to experiment with channel configurations and see how you can adapt your setup to meet your needs. Happy integrating!
