I’ve been exploring ways to streamline my laundry routine using smart home technology, and I’m thrilled to share my success with the TP-Link HS110 smart plug! ![]()
My goal was to detect when my washing machine cycle ends by monitoring power spikes. After some research, I stumbled upon custom device handlers (DH) that could help. While I was initially concerned about the energy reporting lag, I decided to give it a try, especially since TP-Link HS110 is readily available in Australia.
Here’s what I did:
Setup: I connected my washing machine to the TP-Link HS110 plug. Using Home Assistant, I configured it to monitor power usage.
Automation: I set up an automation script that triggers when the power spike indicates the end of the cycle. This sends a notification to my phone, letting me know the laundry is ready!
Testing: The first few tests were a bit hit or miss, but tweaking the sensitivity settings in the custom DH made all the difference. Now, it’s rock solid!
I also came across some fantastic tips from the community. For instance, using UBIDOTS for data logging helped me track power consumption patterns more effectively. This not only improved my setup but also gave me insights into optimizing energy usage!
If anyone has tips on integrating this with other devices or improving the detection accuracy, I’d love to hear them! It’s amazing how a simple smart plug can enhance daily routines. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions! ![]()
