I wanted to share my recent success in integrating Wyze cameras and Shelly devices into my smart home setup. After some research and experimentation, I managed to get everything working smoothly, and I’d like to share my experience in case it helps others.
First, regarding the Wyze cameras, I had some older models with MAC IDs starting with A4 that were causing issues. They would drop offline randomly and sometimes corrupt the SD cards. After some digging, I found that replacing these with newer Wyze cameras (MAC ID starting with 2C) resolved the problem entirely. The newer cameras are more reliable and integrate seamlessly with my system. If anyone is experiencing similar issues, I highly recommend upgrading to the newer models.
Next, I’d like to talk about my experience with Shelly devices. I recently purchased a Shelly 1PM and a Shelly Uni. The Shelly 1PM has been fantastic for monitoring my driveway sensor. Initially, I was unsure how to set it up, but after some trial and error, I figured out that it works perfectly as a dry contact input. Now, whenever someone triggers the sensor, it sends an alert to my phone through the Shelly app. It’s been a great addition to my security setup.
For the Shelly Uni, I wanted it to trigger specific actions in SmartThings when a dry contact was activated. After some research, I discovered that SmartThings can recognize the Shelly Uni’s outputs as switches. By setting up a simple rule in SmartThings, I can now have the Uni trigger events like turning on lights or sending notifications when the sensor is activated. It’s been a great way to expand my automation capabilities without needing additional hardware.
I’d also like to mention the support I received from the community. When I was struggling with the Shelly Uni setup, someone suggested using the SmartThings app to recognize the outputs as switches. That small tip made a huge difference, and I’m grateful for the helpful advice.
In summary, both Wyze cameras and Shelly devices have been excellent additions to my smart home. They’ve improved my security and automation capabilities, and I’m excited to continue exploring their potential. If anyone has questions about integrating these devices, feel free to ask—I’d be happy to share more details!
Happy automating!
