I’ve been on a journey to automate my home using Wyze devices, and I’m thrilled to share my success with setting up a motion detection automation. After several trials and errors, I finally got it right, and it’s been working flawlessly! ![]()
Here’s my setup: I have a Wyze Indoor Plug connected to a lamp in my living room, and a Wyze camera monitoring the same area. My goal was to have the lamp turn on when motion is detected and stay on for a specific duration before turning off automatically. Initially, I faced some challenges—motion events weren’t consistently triggering the plug, and the lamp would sometimes turn off too soon. But through persistence and some research, I cracked the code!
What I learned:
- Event Triggers: It’s crucial to ensure that the motion detection event is properly configured in the Wyze app. I had to adjust the sensitivity settings on the camera to avoid false triggers but still catch actual movements.
- Automation Logic: I used Wyze’s built-in automation rules to set up the sequence: motion detected → lamp on → lamp off after 15 minutes. This ensured reliability without needing third-party integrations.
- Testing: I tested the setup multiple times, moving around the room to simulate different scenarios. It’s satisfying to see everything work as intended now!
Why I’m excited:
This automation not only adds convenience but also enhances security. Knowing that the lamp will turn on when someone enters the room gives me peace of mind, especially when I’m away from home.
If anyone else is working on similar automations, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to share more details or troubleshoot together. ![]()
