Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience integrating my Xiaomi Vacuum Gen 1 with Home Assistant using Valetudo. I’ve been researching this for a while, and it’s been a bit of a journey, but I’m thrilled to finally get it working smoothly!
Initially, I was overwhelmed by the number of topics and configurations mentioned in the community. Many guides seemed outdated or required advanced knowledge that I wasn’t confident about. However, with some persistence and guidance from the community, I managed to get everything set up.
Here’s a quick overview of what I did:
-
Installed Mosquitto Add-on: This was a crucial step. I followed the community recommendations to set up the Mosquitto broker within Home Assistant. It acted as the bridge between my vacuum and Home Assistant.
-
Configuring MQTT Integration: Once Mosquitto was up and running, I configured the MQTT integration in Home Assistant. This allowed me to send commands to the vacuum and receive status updates.
-
Testing Commands: I started by testing simple commands like “start” and “stop” to ensure the vacuum was responding. It was a relief when it worked on the first try!
-
Setting Up Automations: Now that the vacuum was integrated, I wanted to take it a step further. I created an automation that triggers the vacuum to start cleaning at a specific time every day. It’s incredibly convenient and has saved me a lot of time.
-
Receiving Notifications: I also set up notifications to alert me when the vacuum finishes cleaning or if it encounters any issues. This has been really helpful in monitoring its performance without constantly checking the app.
I’d like to thank the community for all the resources and support. If anyone is struggling with a similar setup, I highly recommend checking out the Xiaomi Vacuum with Valetudo Guide. It’s been an invaluable resource for me.
If you have any questions or need help with your setup, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to assist.
