Successful MQTT Integration and Temperature Monitoring

I recently dove into the world of MQTT and OpenHAB, and I must say, the journey has been both challenging and rewarding. After a complete reinstall of OpenHAB2, I was determined to get the MQTT binding working smoothly. The mosquitto broker has been running without issues for over a year, but integrating temperature sensors from my heating system proved to be a hurdle.

Here’s a quick overview of my setup: I configured several Number items in my heizung.items file to capture temperature readings from my heating system. The sitemap was straightforward, displaying these temperature values. However, when I checked the sitemap in BasicUI, none of the items were showing any data. It was frustrating, but I knew I just needed to troubleshoot further.

After some research and trial and error, I realized the issue was with the MQTT topic subscriptions. I had to ensure that the topics were correctly formatted and that the broker was publishing the data as expected. Once that was sorted out, the temperature values started appearing on my sitemap, and it was a relief to see everything working seamlessly.

This experience taught me the importance of meticulous configuration and the value of persistence when dealing with smart home integrations. It’s also a reminder of how powerful MQTT can be when everything is set up correctly. I’m now looking forward to expanding my setup with more sensors and automations!

If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing MQTT configurations, I’d love to hear them. Happy tinkering! :rocket:
