Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience installing outdoor lighting in my new build. It’s been a fantastic learning journey, and I thought I’d pass along some tips that might help others avoid common pitfalls.
The Goal:
I wanted to install permanent outdoor lights with the lights recessed from above, ensuring no visible cords. This meant careful planning and execution to hide all wiring neatly.
The Challenge:
Initially, I struggled with how to route the cords without making them visible. I considered several options, including burying them underground or attaching them to the house’s exterior. However, both methods had their drawbacks, either complicating the installation or risking damage to the cords.
The Solution:
After some research and experimentation, I found that running the cords through the attic space and then down the exterior walls (using weatherproof conduit) was the most effective approach. This method not only hid the cords but also provided easy access for future maintenance.

This helps identify potential obstacles early on.- Use the Right Tools: Invest in quality conduit and connectors to ensure durability and a clean finish.- Test Fits: Before committing to a design, test the placement of lights and cords to ensure everything aligns as intended.- Weatherproofing: Don’t skimp on weatherproofing materials. Proper sealing prevents moisture damage and extends the life of your installation.
Outcome:
I’m thrilled with how the installation turned out. The lights are functional, aesthetically pleasing, and completely cord-free from the outside. It’s a great feeling to walk around the property and not see a single wire.
