Successfully Configuring Alexa Across Two Homes

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience in setting up Alexa across two homes. I recently moved into a second home and wanted to ensure that my smart devices in both locations could be controlled seamlessly. I had two Echo Dots, one in each home, but initially, I faced the issue of devices being controlled in the wrong home. After some research and trial and error, I figured out how to configure Alexa to manage devices in each respective location. Here’s how I did it:

  1. Creating Separate Alexa Accounts: I realized that having a single Alexa account for both homes was causing confusion. I created a second Alexa account specifically for the second home. This allowed me to add devices to each account separately.

  2. Setting Up Routines: I set up routines in each Alexa account that are specific to the devices in that home. For example, a routine in the first home would control the lights there, while a routine in the second account would handle the devices in the second home.

  3. Using Skills and Shortcuts: I utilized Alexa skills and shortcuts to make controlling devices even easier. This way, I could issue voice commands without having to switch accounts manually.

  4. Testing and Adjustments: I tested each setup thoroughly to ensure that the devices were responding correctly. It took a bit of tweaking, but I managed to get everything working smoothly.

This setup has been a lifesaver for me, especially when I’m moving between the two homes. It’s so convenient to have everything controlled without any overlap or confusion. I hope this helps anyone else who might be in a similar situation!

Happy smart home managing! :star2:
