I recently faced a challenge with my smart home setup that I thought I’d share with the community. I have two Echo Dots—one in my living room and another in my bedroom—each paired with their respective TVs. My goal was to ensure that saying ‘turn on the TV’ to either Echo would activate the correct TV in that room. Initially, I was met with frustration when Alexa responded that the TV didn’t support that command, which led me to explore alternative solutions like Haaska and Home Assistant (HA).
After some research and experimentation, I discovered a workaround using HA. By setting up specific automations and integrating Haaska, I was able to map each Echo Dot to its corresponding TV. This involved creating custom intents and ensuring that the devices were correctly paired within the HA ecosystem.
The process was a bit trial and error, but the satisfaction of getting it to work seamlessly was rewarding. Now, I can confidently say that my smart home setup is more intuitive and user-friendly. It’s a great reminder of the flexibility and power of integrating different smart home platforms.
If anyone else is tackling a similar challenge, I’d be happy to share more details or tips! Happy automating everyone! ![]()
