Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with configuring a dual button smart switch in Hubitat. I recently purchased some Tuya SmartLife switches, and while the single switch worked out of the box, the dual switch (which controls both a fan and a light) was giving me some trouble. I couldn’t figure out how to set it up to allow for two separate sliders on the dashboard. After some research and experimentation, here’s how I managed to get it working!
First, I tried creating a single device in Hubitat, but it only allowed for one slider. I realized I needed to create two separate entities—one for the fan and one for the light. I did this by going into the Hubitat device settings and duplicating the device, then renaming each to reflect their respective functions. This way, each entity could be controlled independently.
Next, I faced the challenge of getting both sliders to appear on the dashboard. I discovered that by adding each entity to the dashboard individually, I could stack them to have both controls visible. It took a bit of trial and error with the layout, but I managed to get them positioned neatly next to each other.
I also wanted to ensure that changing one slider wouldn’t affect the other. To do this, I set up separate routines for each entity, ensuring that adjusting the fan didn’t interfere with the light settings and vice versa. This was crucial for maintaining the functionality I needed.
One thing I found particularly helpful was the Hubitat community forum. I came across a thread where someone had faced a similar issue and shared their solution. Their advice on creating separate entities and using routines was instrumental in solving my problem. I’d like to give a shoutout to that user for their helpful contribution!
In the end, the setup works perfectly. I can now control both the fan and the light independently through the Hubitat dashboard, and it’s been a great addition to my smart home setup. It just goes to show how a bit of persistence and community support can turn a tricky problem into a solved solution!
If anyone else is struggling with dual switch configurations, I’d recommend checking out the Hubitat forums and experimenting with creating separate entities. It might take a bit of time, but the result is well worth it. Happy automating everyone! ![]()
