Successfully Connected Arlo Essential Doorbell to SmartThings

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with connecting the Arlo Essential doorbell to SmartThings. Initially, I was a bit puzzled because the doorbell didn’t show up in SmartThings, even though it was supposed to be compatible. I connected it to my Arlo base station, which works perfectly with my cameras, but the doorbell remained elusive.

I started by checking the basics: ensuring the doorbell was properly connected to the base station and that both were on the same Wi-Fi network. I also reviewed the Arlo app to confirm that the doorbell was recognized there. After some research, I discovered that sometimes devices need a bit of time to sync, so I patiently waited and even restarted both the doorbell and the router.

The breakthrough came when I realized the doorbell needed to be manually added to SmartThings instead of waiting for it to appear automatically. I navigated to the ‘Add Device’ section in the SmartThings app and selected ‘Connect via SmartApp.’ There, I found the Arlo integration and followed the prompts to connect the doorbell. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but it worked!

Now, I can monitor my doorbell activity right alongside my other smart devices, which is fantastic. This experience taught me the importance of checking both the device and app settings when troubleshooting connectivity issues. If anyone else is having trouble, I highly recommend trying the manual add method—it might just be the solution you need!
