Successfully Connecting Matter Devices with IPV6: My Experience and Tips

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success in getting my Matter devices to connect properly with Home Assistant. I’ve been trying to adopt some TP-Link Tapo plugs for a while now, but kept running into issues where they wouldn’t show up in either Home Assistant or Google Home. It was really frustrating because everything seemed to be set up correctly on my end!

After some research and a bit of trial and error, I stumbled upon a YouTube video by Eric Welander that mentioned something about enabling IPV6 on my network. Honestly, I hadn’t even considered that before, but once I enabled IPV6 on my OPNsense firewall, things changed overnight! The plugs were instantly discovered and adopted. It was such a relief to finally get them working without any hiccups.

I just wanted to share this solution in case anyone else is struggling with Matter device adoption. It’s crazy how something as simple as enabling IPV6 can make such a big difference. I wish this was mentioned more often in the documentation, but glad I found the fix!

If anyone else has had similar issues or has tips for getting Matter devices to work smoothly, I’d love to hear your experiences. Let’s keep the community knowledge flowing! :rocket::sparkles:
