It was a shocking sight, especially considering the camera had been functioning perfectly until then.I immediately took the camera down and began disassembling it to assess the damage. Inside, I found rusty water residue and some corroded contacts. It was clear that water had somehow infiltrated the camera, despite the supposedly watertight design. I couldn’t help but wonder how this had happened, especially since the camera was placed in a relatively sheltered area.After some research, I realized that the design of the Blink Outdoor cameras might be more susceptible to water ingress than their predecessors. The multiple seals and small openings seemed like potential entry points for water, especially in areas with frequent wind and rain like mine. It was a disappointing revelation, especially after having such positive experiences with the XT2 models.Determined to fix the issue, I decided to perform a thorough cleanup. I removed all the contacts, cleaned them with a fine brush, and dried them meticulously. I also flushed the inside of the camera with an electrical cleaning solvent to ensure no moisture remained. To prevent future issues, I applied a thin layer of silicone grease around all the seals before reassembling the camera. Finally, I replaced the batteries and resealed the camera, hoping for the best.To my relief, the camera is now working perfectly again. The cleanup process was time-consuming, but it was worth it to salvage the device. However, this incident has made me cautious about the other Blink Outdoor cameras I own. I plan to inspect them regularly and apply the same preventative measures to avoid any future mishaps.This experience has been both frustrating and enlightening. While I appreciate the convenience and features that Blink cameras offer, their durability in harsh weather conditions leaves much to be desired.
