Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with the Shelly PM Mini Gen 3 and how I managed to fix an issue I was having with the Energy Dashboard. If you’re dealing with similar problems, I hope this helps!
So, I recently installed a Shelly PM Mini Gen 3 in my basement to monitor the energy consumption of my garage and basement. Everything was working smoothly until I noticed something odd in the Energy Dashboard. The system was incorrectly adding the energy generated by my solar panel system (which is on the balcony) to the basement’s energy consumption. This was causing the dashboard to show a much higher energy usage than what was actually happening.
At first, I was a bit confused. Why was the solar energy being added to the basement’s consumption? I checked the sensor settings and realized that the Shelly PM Mini Gen 3 was configured to only measure consumption, not generation. That made sense because it’s designed to track how much energy is being used, not produced. But in my case, the solar panels were connected to the same circuit, so the sensor was picking up both consumption and generation, leading to the incorrect readings.
I decided to dig deeper and found that the Shelly PM Mini Gen 3 actually has the capability to measure both consumption and generation. It just needed a bit of tweaking in the settings. I reached out to the Shelly support team, and they were super helpful. They guided me through the process of configuring the sensor to correctly distinguish between consumption and generation.
After making the necessary adjustments, the Energy Dashboard started showing accurate readings. The basement’s energy consumption was no longer inflated by the solar energy production. It was a bit of a learning curve, but in the end, it was worth it to get everything working perfectly.
This experience taught me the importance of thoroughly understanding the capabilities of my devices and not being afraid to reach out for help when needed. The Shelly PM Mini Gen 3 is a fantastic device, and with the right configuration, it can provide incredibly accurate energy monitoring.
