Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with flashing an EtekCity Voltson smart plug with Tasmota firmware. After some research and experimentation, I managed to get it working seamlessly with my SmartThings setup. Here’s what I did and what I learned along the way!
First, I identified the GPIO pins on the ESW01-USA model. GPIO4 controls the relay and the yellow LED, while GPIO14 is connected to the button. The challenge was figuring out how to access the VCC pin, which required some careful soldering. I reached out to the Tasmota community for guidance, and they were incredibly helpful!
Once I flashed the firmware, I was amazed at how smoothly everything integrated with SmartThings. No additional bridges or servers were needed, which made the setup much simpler than I initially feared. However, I did encounter some instability issues, particularly with the GPIO16 pin, which handles the IR LED. I’m still tweaking the firmware to ensure consistent performance, but the progress so far has been encouraging.
If anyone is considering a similar project, I highly recommend checking out the Tasmota GitHub repository. The documentation is thorough, and the community support is fantastic. I’m hopeful that with some further adjustments, this setup will become even more reliable.
This experience has been a great learning opportunity, and I’m excited to continue refining my smart home setup. Happy tinkering, everyone! ![]()
