Successfully Integrated Smart Switch with LIFX Bulbs: My Experience

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with integrating a GE in-wall smart switch and LIFX BR30 bulbs. It’s been a journey, but I’m thrilled with the result! :tada:

I’ve always wanted to control my lights entirely through the app, especially since my family often struggles with the physical switch. After some research, I decided to try a unique setup: disconnecting the load from the switch and wiring the lights directly. This way, the switch remains powered, and I can still use it as a backup if needed.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Wiring Adjustment: I carefully rewired the switch to leave only the line, ground, and neutral connected. The load was rerouted straight to the lights. This ensures the lights stay on and are fully controllable via the app.

  2. Smart Lighting Configuration: I set up the smart lighting in my app to use the switch’s on/off position to send signals to the individual bulbs. It’s been working like a charm!

  3. Testing: I tested the setup extensively, and it’s been rock solid. My kids and guests can now easily control the lights without needing the app, and I can still manage everything remotely.

I wanted to thank everyone in the community for their advice and support. It’s amazing how a little creativity and the right guidance can transform your smart home experience. If anyone has questions or needs tips, feel free to reach out! :hugs:

Happy smart home tinkering! :rocket:
