Successfully Integrating Alexa Devices with Homey

After struggling for a while to get my Alexa devices to work seamlessly with Homey, I wanted to share my journey and some tips that might help others facing similar issues. :dart:

The Challenge
I recently purchased a Homey Pro and was excited to integrate it with my existing Alexa setup. I have multiple Echo devices and over 40 connected plugs and bulbs managed through the Alexa app. Everything worked perfectly on its own, but getting Homey to recognize and control these devices proved to be a hurdle.

What I Tried
I enabled the Homey skill in the Alexa app and initiated the Alexa integration within Homey. Despite following the instructions, nothing seemed to happen. No devices were detected, and I couldn’t find any guidance in the official documentation. :books:

The Solution
After some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that the issue might be related to how Homey and Alexa communicate. Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Double-Check Permissions
Ensure that the Homey skill has the necessary permissions in your Alexa app. Sometimes, permissions can be restricted or not fully granted during setup.

  2. Clear and Re-Add Devices
I found that clearing the Alexa devices from Homey and then re-adding them worked like a charm. It seems like a fresh start helped Homey recognize the devices properly. :arrows_counterclockwise:

  3. Use Alexa Commands in Flows
Once the devices were recognized, I could start creating flows. For example, I set up a routine where saying, “Alexa, goodnight” turns off all my lights and locks the doors. It’s amazing how much smoother everything runs now! :crescent_moon:

Tips for Others

  • If you’re having trouble, try resetting both Homey and your Alexa devices before attempting the integration again.
  • Check the Homey logs for any error messages that might give more insight into what’s going wrong.
  • Don’t hesitate to reach out to the community forums. Someone might have faced the same issue and found a workaround. :handshake:

It’s incredible how much more efficient my smart home setup has become since resolving this issue. I’m now looking forward to exploring more advanced automations with Homey and Alexa together! :rocket:
