Successfully Integrating Alexa with Camera Doorbell

After months of research and experimentation, I finally managed to set up my Echo to play a doorbell sound whenever my camera detects someone at the front door. It was quite the journey, but I’m thrilled with the result!

Here’s a quick rundown of what I did:

  1. Camera Detection: My camera detects motion and sends an alert to Blue Iris.
  2. AI Verification: Blue Iris uses AI to verify if the detected motion is from a human, which helps reduce false alarms.
  3. Triggering Alexa: Once verified, Blue Iris sends a signal to Hubitat, which flips a virtual switch. This switch is linked to my Echo, triggering the built-in doorbell sound.

The process was a bit tricky, especially getting Blue Iris and Hubitat to communicate seamlessly. I had to manually correct some spelling issues in the Hubitat app, but it was worth it in the end!

I’m excited to finally have this system up and running. It’s a great way to know when someone’s at the door without having to constantly monitor the camera feed. If anyone has similar setups or tips, I’d love to hear about them!
