Successfully Integrating Bosch Thermostat and Solving Sunrise/Sunset Rule Issues

I recently embarked on a project to integrate my Bosch Smart Home System into my openHAB setup, and I must say, it’s been quite an adventure! While the Bosch World app works seamlessly, getting everything connected in openHAB was a bit of a puzzle. I wanted to share my journey in case it helps others facing similar challenges.

First, I installed the Bosch Smart Home Binding and set up the bridge. The initial setup was smooth, but I struggled with finding the correct device IDs for my thermostats. After some digging, I realized the IDs are tied to the ZigBee EUI-64 addresses, which were hidden in the logs. Once I figured that out, the thermostats appeared in my setup, and I could start configuring them!

Another hurdle I encountered was setting up rules based on sunrise and sunset. I’ve used similar rules at home without issues, but on this new hub, they simply wouldn’t trigger after a week. I tried everything from Mode Manager to Rule Machine, but nothing worked. The logs showed no activity, which was perplexing. After some research, I discovered that deleting the rule, rebooting the hub, and recreating the rule did the trick. It’s a bit of a workaround, but it’s reliable now.

One thing I learned is the importance of logging. By enabling detailed logging, I could pinpoint where the rules were failing. It’s also crucial to check the cron jobs and ensure they’re correctly scheduled. I now have a robust system where my lights adjust based on natural light, and my thermostats operate efficiently thanks to the Bosch integration.

If anyone else is struggling with Bosch device IDs or sunrise/sunset rules, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to share more details or troubleshoot together. Happy automating!
