Successfully Integrating Elgato Avea with OpenHAB

I’ve been on a journey to integrate my Elgato Avea bulbs into my OpenHAB setup, and I’m thrilled to share my success story! :star2:

After some research, I discovered that while there isn’t a direct binding for Elgato Avea bulbs in OpenHAB 2, there’s a workaround using Homebridge. However, setting it up wasn’t straightforward due to user rights issues. I stumbled upon a GitHub repository that provided a Homebridge plugin specifically for Elgato Avea bulbs, which seemed promising.

Here’s what I did:

  1. Installed Homebridge: I followed the instructions to install Homebridge on my Raspberry Pi 3. It was a bit tricky at first, but with some careful reading, I got it set up.
  2. Configured the Plugin: I cloned the Homebridge Avea Bulb plugin repository and installed it. The setup required a few tweaks in the config.json file to ensure it recognized my bulbs.
  3. Connected to OpenHAB: Once Homebridge was running smoothly, I added the bulbs as HomeKit accessories in OpenHAB. It was a relief to see them appear in the OpenHAB interface!

The result? Seamless integration! My Elgato Avea bulbs now work perfectly within my OpenHAB ecosystem, allowing me to control them through my existing automations and scenes. :tada:

If anyone is struggling with similar issues, I highly recommend exploring Homebridge as a bridge between your bulbs and OpenHAB. It might take a bit of trial and error, but the payoff is worth it! :bulb:

Happy automating! :rocket:
